Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo looked very different for everyone this year; most of Texas opened the Friday before, however, people have still been a little cautions going out and celebrating the way that they normally would. For our Cinco de Mayo, I jumped on board with a little family party. Made enchiladas for dinner, a margarita on the rocks (however, majorly craving a good frozen margarita with chips and salsa on a patio with friends), and found some fun toys to get the pups involved.
ZippyPaws created a pinata with little "candies" inside! Possibly one of the cutest hide-a-toys we have gotten the boys for our entertainment. Harrison does not like the miniature toys with squeakers being in the hide-a-toy and his first goal is always to take ALL of the squeak toys out. Then, he will pick ONE of the three squeak toys and that is his toy for the night that completely fills with slobber. If you try to trade him for a non-completely slobber toy, he cries for the one that he knows is his. Hobson just loves to play with the large hide-a-toy. Sometimes, he will fling and flip the hide-a-toy around and, accidentally, the small squeak toy flies out and across the room, but to pull the squeak toys out is not his overall goal like it is for Harrison.
I also had found from Fringe Studio a maracas playing t-rex! We have started to collect these, mostly for Hobson, because he loves them. We aren't 100% sure why he loves them so much, but it is so fun to to see his excitement every time we find a new one! Over the last year, we found t-rex with a flamingo floaty for summer, t-rex with a pumpkin tick-or-treat "bag," t-rex dressed in Christmas sweater, and t-rex with a love heart. So when I found this new t-rex with maracas back in January, I never would have thought that it would bring so much joy to all of us months later.
When being on this stay-at-home ordinance and the world having this pandemic, it is the little things that bring so much joy to all our lives. Hobson and Harrison are very social pups; well, mostly Hobson, if I am being honest. Shopping, eating on patios, or even just walking around one of the local outdoor shopping centers and having people stop to pet and talk to Hobson is one of his favorite things. Since Hobson was a puppy, we started to socialize him and we knew from behaviors when we hadn't socialized him enough. As much as this pandemic has effected us as humans, it has effected some pups, like Hobson, and yet there is really no way to explain to him what is going on.
So maybe the excitement over these toys had more to do with bringing the pups something new but familiar vs celebrating Cinco de Mayo, but finding something to celebrate during all of this has made it a little easier and allows us to feel a little more normal.
