Momma's Boy
When friends announce they are preggers, I love when they ask if I can help with decorating and the baby showers. That is probably one of the strangest things to hear someone single and without kids say, however, I love being able to help them bring their vision together.
For this momm'a boy, she wanted to have a fun hunter theme, which was very popular back a few years ago. For the baby shower the theme was fun animals in nature, and the two friends putting the shower on asked if I could help with some canvases to display and then gift the momma-to-be. There was lots of burlap and twin in the banners and tablecloths, so though it was a baby boy shower, I decided a little glitz on the deer head would bring in some whimsy fun.
For those that don't think you can create or paint canvas, I promise you can do this. You can use tracing paper or print and shine light behind the canvas and pencil in the design. To get the thin gray coat on the "so, there is a boy" canvas, you can water down the paint. This will give a very light tint to the canvas to start the finished look. wait for it to dry, and use thin brushing and thick acrylic paint to fill in the lettering that you penciled on the canvas before the paint wash for the background of the canvas. For the buck head, I used the same pencil in the print and used painters tape to get the clean lined chevron when painting.
We were able to use all the canvas as the back drop for the momma-to-be to open her gifts by using some command hooks on the window at the venue. It was great because it cut down on the reflection from the window and was something personal for the party that she could take home and enjoy in the nursery.
For the gift, I put together a very cute box, that could be used for storage in the baby room filled with some clothes, blanket, and a fun little ceramic dog to place on a shelf. With a personal touch of Manner of Design, I created a custom superhero swaddle for the little man coming into the world & a MoDesty cover up for nursing.
